The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is a widely used simulation model to predict the impacts of land use and climate change on ecosystem functions of small watersheds and large river basins. This course will introduce the major principles of the SWAT model and its subroutines from climate and hydrology to nutrient cycles and plant growth. We will explore how to set up the model for a watershed, learn about model calibration with observation data, and we will evaluate potential environmental impacts of land use or climate change with respect to ecosystem services.
